“Julie Jacky has written a memoir that takes the reader on a journey of self-discovery…. to “the other side” of forgiveness and healing. She is at times a warrior on the battlefield of trauma fighting to find herself after hiding and minimizing her experience for so many years. At other times, she is a comedian trying to make sense of something unimaginable for a young child. At other times, she is both the healee and the healer doing this work not only for herself but for all of us.
As a survivor of sexual abuse myself, I appreciate her ability to articulate her inner experiences, common to many of us but unique to her personal journey. Full of courage, perseverance, laughter, friendship, heart-opening moments all together with the horror, the confusion, the unfathomable attempts of a young girl to make sense of an experience so incomprehensible.
She is articulate, compassionate, funny, completely self-disclosing in a way that allows the reader to feel the transformative power of telling the truth, of being seen and of trusting in oneself to know the answers. She has refused to be a victim but instead has chosen to dig deep to heal and receive the gifts from her experiences. Her journey of integration, forgiveness and reclaiming her wholeness as a birthright will inspire the reader to do the same.”
I heartily recommend this book to anyone who had a difficult time navigating their teenage years, and who suffered into adulthood as a consequence. As a hypnotherapist and a spiritual mentor, this is one book I will be handing to my clients. I’m grateful for Julie Jacky’s courage to live her story, and then to share it. It is a gift for our time.
