EFT/Tapping

Change Got You Down? Tap On It!

One of the ways I decided to connect with people in my community was through joining a gym near my new home in Florida. I hadn’t been consistently working out prior to my move so eased my way back in with a free trial week of beginner’s bootcamp, then I joined the gym and moved into regular bootcamp a few days a week at the 7:00 AM class.

Today when I was working out our trainer let us know that likely the 7:00 AM bootcamp class would be eliminated due to low attendance. As with any change, I did what everyone does, which is first assess the impact to me.

And I didn’t like it.

I liked my 7:00 AM class time M, W, & F and I liked the smaller class size.

I didn’t want to move to the 5:30 AM class because that class had so many people and is early, and the 9:00 AM class was too late for me.

I was aware of my resistance to this change and my “crabbiness” around it. So, after class I went to the beach, stuck my feet in the water and stood there tapping.  (Not too many people around… so I didn’t feel goofy tapping there.)

I knew I was being a bit crabby, so while tapping I threw a little temper tantrum about being upset my 7:00 AM class is being cancelled and not wanting to get up for the 5:30 AM class and, and, and… I added in all the other little things that were bothering me.

I exaggerated my temper tantrum voice to make it extra whiny, and then I busted out laughing.

I busted out laughing because I sounded ridiculous and I realized once again my amazing brain was doing it’s job “trying to keep me safe” from this change – which often comes out in the form of negative thoughts. As I continued tapping new thoughts popped in like “well, if I do the 5:30 AM class then I can watch the sunrise at the beach afterwards” and “I’ve been awake at 5:30 AM for the past several mornings anyway,”  “I’ve been wanting to get an earlier start to my day so it sounds like this will push me to do that,” and “I will get to make new friends since the class has more people in it.”

By the time I was done tapping I had moved through the change cycle (a cycle we ALL go through every time we have change in our lives… which happens regularly) and was feeling content about the change. I even started feeling grateful that I got “pushed” into the change I had been wanting anyway.

When you have a change take place in your life and you find that you aren’t reacting well to it, you can tap on it. Tap while talking out loud venting all your frustrations with the change.

And even do what I did: add in an extra whiny voice. (It’s actually really helpful in addition to being funny!)

If you’re new to Emotional Freedom Technique here is a quick video to learn the meridian tapping points and to try an exercise so you can feel how it works.

And as always, if you get stuck and need a little extra help to get clear, then schedule a session with me and I will guide you to a better feeling place (and a better attitude) about the change you are going through.
